D-Day: Invasion on Normandy


June 6, 1944 is the day which the Invasion of Normandy began. The goal of the invasion was to liberate Europe during World War II, which was being occupied by Nazi Germany. This operation was the largest single-day invasion of all time. It consisted of over 130,000 troops and 195,700 naval personnel. Explain why the allied forces called the invasion, "D-Day." What other names were given to the invasion? What was important about the size of the invasion?



Nuremberg Trials


The Nuremberg Trials were the most notable trials after the end of World War II. These trials prosecuted the members of the political, military, and economic leaders of the Nazi Regime. Nuremberg Trials had begun in 1945 at the Palace of Justice in the city of Nuremberg, Germany. The trials didn't conclude till 1949. What World War II participants were put to trial in the first court sessions and what war criminals were put to trial in the second court session?



Pearl Harbor


On December 7, 1941, the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese navy. This day marked a day that will never be forgotten by United States citizens. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in his famous speech, "This is a day that will live in infamy." This attack served as a huge blow to the United States navy. Briefly research how many total military personal and civilians were killed or wounded from the attack? Also, explain how many ships were destroyed or damaged in the unexpected attack on the naval base?



Invasion of Poland


The invasion of Poland in September 1939 marked the start of World War II. On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland. Once Germany invaded Poland a few days later many of Poland's allies declared war on Germany. Later in September the Soviet Union invaded the eastern portion of Poland. At this time, Germany and the Soviet Union had completely occupied Poland. Your assignment is to find all the allies and axis of World War II in 1939. Figure out who were the participating parties.

Concentration Camps


During World War II concentration camps were established throughout Europe by the Nazis under the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. Millions of Jewish civilians were displaced from there homes and forced into ghettos or concentration camps. The Jewish people were detained to these areas and many died of mistreatment, malnutrition, and disease. Jewish individuals were exploited to slave labor and for medical experimentations. Nazi's also established extermination camps in Eastern Europe where millions of Jewish men, women, and children were killed in gas chambers.
