D-Day: Invasion on Normandy

June 6, 1944 is the day which the Invasion of Normandy began. The goal of the invasion was to liberate Europe during World War II, which was being occupied by Nazi Germany. This operation was the largest single-day invasion of all time. It consisted of over 130,000 troops and 195,700 naval personnel. Explain why the allied forces called the invasion, "D-Day." What other names were given to the invasion? What was important about the size of the invasion?
